Reading Time: 4 mins, 50 secs

We’re nearing the end of the year and people are starting to think of their New Year’s resolutions.

That’s all great, but I want to take you on a different route and perspective for the coming year.

Setting goals that are filled with ambition and provide you the necessary drive to put in the work.

Think of next year and the goals you’re going to set for yourself. You need the motivation to push yourself out of your comfort zone and make life happen!

8 Equities of Life

To make this easier for you, I want you to focus on the 8 Equities of Life, which covers:

  • Physical
  • Family
  • Spiritual
  • Career
  • Attitude
  • Financial
  • Relationships
  • Knowledge

These 8 Equities of Life came from my mentor, Mike Vance, who used to say, “Look at the bigger picture.”

So don’t be myopic and really examine what equity you need to work on more. You have to work in each area so you can feel a sense of fulfillment.

Before we begin, I want you to download the PDF worksheet that will guide you on the upcoming exercise that I cover on this episode!

So let’s start!

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Now that you have the worksheet printed and in front of you, I want you to really dive into this exercise.

What was your life like 5 years ago? What did you look like? What was your weight? How old were you?

Reflect on your past and write your answers down!

And I want you to focus on the 8 Equities and examine where was your family life like 5 years ago.

Where were you spiritually?

What about your career and business?

Really dig into this exercise and reflect on where your life was and how it has improved, declined, or perhaps stayed the same.

Be honest with yourself and remember that there’s no judgement here. Being true to yourself is the only way you can move forward and succeed.

Tom Ferry - Success Summit

It’s All About the Present!

Now, where are you today?

What does your life look like?

Reflect on the progression and growth that you’ve had in the different areas of your life.

Once you’ve recognized these changes, also be aware of where you’ve fallen short and instead of feeling embarrassed or crushed – do something about it!

Spend time getting better and really ask yourself what has given you the boost in the aspects where you have succeeded.

What books, conferences, workshops, podcasts or people have helped you excel in some of the equities?

Once you have the answer, then you have the answer to improve!

Track and measure your growth and try not to be one dimensional, and really grow in other areas!

The Future is Near

There’s two types of people in the world.

The ones that know what they want and work towards accomplishing those goals.

While others are always complaining about not getting a fair share of life.

Which one are you… and where do you want to be 5 years from today?

I know I’m asking you a lot of questions, but I really want you to be aware of what you want to accomplish and how you see your life in the next 5 years.

Once you realize how your life has changed or not, then you really need to be aware of how you want your life to be.

When you have that ready, then you NEED to write it down!

When you have it on paper, it’s so much easier to create action and make things happen!

Challenge Yourself

I’m going to challenge you to write 3 goals of what you want to achieve over the next 5 years in each area of your life.

Do you want to travel more? Do you want to work in the luxury market or start a family?

Write down your goals and even though right now they might sound impossible, trust me…  When you do the work, it WILL happen!

Don’t be ashamed to share your goals and what you have planned for your life.

Speak those goals into existence by putting it into the universe and cementing it with actions!

This exercise will drive your motivation and align the necessary behavior for you to make all of this happen.

And look at all those equities: physical health, finance, family, knowledge, etc!

Go Ahead… Dream Big!

Now that we’re still on the topic of our future, you really want to create a dream list of the top 10 things you want in your life.

That can range from experiences, vacations, people you want to meet and connect with – you name it!

When you have this list ready, you want to know what skills you need to have mastered so this can be easily attainable.

All these steps are necessary for you to go on to next week’s exercise of doing your business plan.

Look at all your answers and you’ll realize you’ll have clarity, motivation and the drive to start on that business plan.

Really take the time to complete this exercise. I encourage you to do it with your family or team and just focus on all those areas that you’ve been lacking on.

It’s now or never and you have plenty of time to answer these questions and act on these challenges.

So what are you waiting for? Will you be complaining or thriving?

Let me know what equities you need to work on and what goals you set for yourself for the next 5 years in the comments below!
