VP of Sales

Summary
The Vice President of Sales leads and directs the sales team to meet or exceed sales revenue, sales profitability and budgetary objectives. The role involves strategic planning, managing people, selling, leveraging technology and improving processes. A vice president of sales is a key member of the senior management team.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and Measurements
• creates and executes the sales department go-to-market and operational strategies to achieve business objectives.
• participates with other senior managers in developing strategy for the entire company.
• determines and monitors the department’s key performance indicators (KPIs) such as revenue vs. plan, contact rate, quote closure rate and gross profit percentage.
• anticipates and reacts quickly to trends and changes in performance.
• develops and manages sales department budgets.
• builds a high performing sales culture through selection, training, development and recognition
• coaches sales team with hands-on approach with daily interaction
• is accountable for the overall satisfaction of customers throughout the sales process
• promote positive relations with partners, vendors and distributors

Selling
• develops and oversees a sales training program for new and existing employees.
• ensures sales employees are equipped with the product, system and selling-skills training that they require to be successful.
• partners with marketing to develop lead generation and revenue generation programs, and to create high performing sales collateral.

Technology and Continuous Improvement
• continually improves the effectiveness of the sales organization and enhances productivity, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• oversees and drives adoption of sales technology including customer relationship management (CRM).
• partners with information technology leaders to identify and implement new technology and improve existing technology based on business needs.
• develops, documents and enforces sales policies, standard operating procedures and best practices.
• streamlines sales processes.

1. Manages budget and controls expenses effectively.
2. Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
3. Maintains compliance with company policies, practices and procedures.
4. Participates in proactive efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
5. Works effectively and communicates clearly with other employees.
6. Handles changing deadlines and priorities.
7. Reviews work for accuracy, completeness and proper authority.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree (MBA preferred) in a relevant field and/or ten or more years’ relevant experience with at least four years of experience in a selling role and at least two years of experience woking with sales technologies and CRM.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Regularly leads and directs employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training sales supervisory staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Computer Skills
Proficient with CRMs (Salesforce)
Proficient with MS Office Suite

Physical Demands
This is relatively sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: reaching, sitting, standing, lifting (≤25 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.

Work Environment
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
The office work environment can be boisterous. Attire is business casual.

Travel
Minimal

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
