7 Encouraging Thoughts to Keep You Moving Forward photo

There’s a lot of heavy stuff happening right now.

It’s sad. It’s frustrating. It’s demoralizing.

And if you’re not careful, it can be all-consuming.

As a business coach, I find myself in an interesting position.

People are rightfully invested in what’s happening now.

But my JOB is to keep their businesses moving forward… to help people dig in and produce even when they don’t feel like it, or when everything in the world seems upside down.

So I had some thoughts I wanted to share with you right now.

Seven, to be exact.

Let’s start…

 

Encouraging Thought No. 1: It’s Okay to Not Know How to Feel

Emotions are high. There’s sadness and conflict and worldwide health and social issues coming at us from all angles.

You don’t need to have every answer. Relieve yourself of that burden.

Say it out loud: It’s okay to feel unsure of yourself and uneasy right now. That’s where growth happens.

 

Encouraging Thought No. 2: Mindset Matters

You know I’m big on the power of a positive mindset.

I believe your mindset consists of three primary elements:

  • What you believe to be true
  • What you believe you’re capable of
  • What you believe you’re worth

One, two, or even all three of those elements might be a little shaky right now.

Whatever you do, get your feelings out so you can clear your mind, get back in a positive mindset, and move forward productively.

 

Encouraging Thought No. 3: Two Keys to Sustainable Happiness

I want to take a moment to remind you of the two drivers of long-term, sustainable happiness: contributing to others and continuous learning.

Which begs these two questions:

How are you helping others?

What are you learning right now?

Those are two powerful questions that can quickly shake you out of a funk – AND contribute to your long-term happiness.

 

Encouraging Thought No. 4: Don’t Forget These 3 Rules

Please remember: My job with my coaching clients and the role I take on when writing these blogs is to act as your business coach. Which means I’m charged with getting you focused, disciplined and taking appropriate action to conduct more business. That does NOT discount that serious things are happening in the world, and in no way am I suggesting you ignore what’s going on out there. I’m just sticking to my responsibility to you and trying to keep you focused.

With that said, I want to remind you of three rules we put in place when the pandemic first struck. I think they’re still extremely relevant today…

  1. Safety First – Are you and your loved ones safe? That’s your first priority.
  2. Keep the Business Moving Forward – What actions are you taking today?
  3. Continue to Fill Your Pipeline – People are planning moves in the near future; now is not the time to pull back on your marketing, prospecting, and any tactics that will move your next customer one step closer to you.

 

Encouraging Thought No. 5: What Are You ‘Filling Your Tank’ With?

Yes, it’s important to stay informed.

It’s also critically important to “fill your tank” with uplifting content.

Personally, I don’t think watching the news for three hours straight, showing the same footage over and over, is constructive. Or healthy.

Make sure you’re seeking positive mental nourishment – what are your “go-to” podcasts or audiobooks from mentors who will inspire and energize you right now?

Remember: What you put in is what comes out when you get squeezed. So be really conscious of how you’re “filling your tank” at all times!

 

Encouraging Thought No. 6: Give Yourself an Outlet

Keeping your thoughts and feelings bottled up inside will not result in a productive version of yourself.

You need to let it out. Here are a few actions you might consider:

For some, meditation might be the solution.

For others, exercise and working out allows you to get your body moving and get those “rrrrghs” out.

Or maybe you need to take a day off just to hit the reset button.

Whatever the case, don’t keep it all bottled up inside you.

 

Encouraging Thought No. 7: Have Someone You Can Open Up To

As a coach, “reading the room” is essential to my success.

Many sessions with my clients are super tactical, collaborating on exciting marketing ideas they are implementing or talking about how to grow their team, etc.

And then other times, it’s all about listening.

I’ve had several of those sessions this week.

And I’m confident every one of those clients would tell you these conversations have been tremendously helpful… because we were able to clear those mental road blocks and keep them moving forward.

It’s important for all of us to have someone we can open up to every now and then…

  • About how you’re feeling
  • About how your business is going
  • About how your life is going
  • About how to overcome a specific challenge you’re facing

Who’s that person in your life? What about for your business? Rely on them in this time. And if you don’t have someone that comes to mind, find them.
