Accounting Manager

Summary

The Accounting Manager is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Achieves accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
2. Meets accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
3. Confirms financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; preparing special reports.
4. Maintains accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures.
5. Oversees monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports.
6. Guides other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
7. Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations; recommending new procedures.
8. Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
9. Maintains compliance with company policies, practices and procedures.
10. Reviews work for accuracy, completeness and proper authority.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision
Works under general direction. Requires only broad guidelines to accomplish objectives. Uses independent judgment to achieve goals.

Regularly leads and directs employees in Accounting. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting/Finance and five years of hands-on accounting managerial experience. CPA a plus.

Language Skills
Proficient English language skills – written and spoken. Able to read and interpret documents, instructions and manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to speak effectively and communicate clearly on the phone, in person and via email.

Computer Skills
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate to advanced skills with Excel.

Physical Demands
This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: reaching, sitting, lifting (≤25 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

Work Environment
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

The office work environment can be boisterous. Attire is business casual.

Travel
Minimal (less than 5%). May be required to travel overnight – by car or air – to support various events sometimes working in excess of eight (8) hours/day.
